I trained in Taekwondo for 6 years on and off. When I moved to the Upper Valley, I was not sure if I would find a school that would match the level at which I was training with my Taekwondo instructor. Once I joined Okinawan Karate Academy, I didn't look anywhere else. When you become a part of this community, you become a part of a family of wonderful people that want to see you succeed. The instructors are patient and kind. They will push and challenge you to become a better version of yourself. You'll learn strength, perseverance, and self-control. You may even learn how to conduct yourself outside of the dojo. You get out of karate what you put into it. If you are willing to put in the hard work, time, and dedication, you'll see yourself become more than you could imagine. And the instructors are there to help you become what you want to be.
A great place for kids to learn focus, discipline, and have fun!
OKA is a great place for both kids and adults to start or continue an education in martial arts.
The instructors are great with kids, and as kids go up in rank they are often given the opportunity to work with lower belts.
This system ensures the senior students know their techniques while also giving them a valuable opportunity to mentor younger students. This in turn fosters an atmosphere of respect and courtesy. Adult classes are taught much the same, with senior students working on kata and technique with junior students. Given that classes for adults range from white belts to black belts, this ensures that students are given ample opportunity to teach and learn.
You are never too old to learn Karate! The staff are great. Very professional. Good workout! Lots of fun!
It has excellent instructors very good for children and adults self-defense.
As someone who started in 6th grade and worked my way up through the ranks, I can say that this dojo has completely changed my life for the better. It's a great way for younger kids to get exercise while still having fun.
The leading instructors are always ready to help and have taught me many life lessons over the past four years. I now preside as one of the oldest students at the school and get to teach children of all ages every week. Those that I have learned and taught with have become more like family and I look forward every day to returning to this dojo. I highly recommend this dojo if you are looking for a fun time for both you and your children.
Older student here. Welcoming. Good camaraderie among teenage students. Axiom “to do no harm” . Yes you push to grow as a student but not to point of injuring self. Respectful of differences in learning styles.
There are children with learning differences who are welcomed and supported. Good place to begin the foray into martial arts.
Great karate (and life) school. Very friendly staff (small kids welcome as well). Somewhat pricey - but you get what you pay for!
Great karate school for kids! My son loved it when he was younger and prices are good.
